Nina and Irma
Oil 20: x 16″
Nina is a woman of high intelligence and numerous demons, a combination we all know and recognize. From a photo I took.

When my father died in 1993, I took a few rolls of film of those who attended his festive Irish wake, with the idea in mind to capture some of the faces on canvas. Here you have Irma, who was my dad’s secretary for 30 years. My mother said about the never married Irma, “She’s not a pretty girl, but she sure is good at what she does.” What a judgment on Irma, huh? Maybe she loved my father. Maybe she was gay. Maybe she was just fine the way she was.
