Silver Streak
Oil 32″ x 24″
My mother, Mary, was an RN living in Brooklyn and newly married to my father, Francis, when she received the sad telegram saying her youngest brother, John Milton, had died at 16 from a brain infection contracted from raising passenger pigeons, a popular hobby at that time. With her eyes brimming with tears, she’s slipped off her gloves and taken her seat on the Silver Streak, bound for her family home in North Carolina and destinations beyond.
